In addition to being one of the best attacking sides in Europe and Spain, the success that FC Barcelona has enjoyed this season also owes a lot of credit to the defensive performance of the team.

The backline of Jules Kounde, Pau Cubarsi, Inigo Martinez, and Alejandro Balde has been playing at a very high level this season, and has allowed the Blaugrana club to get to the top of the league table, into the final of the Copa del Rey, and also to get one foot in the semi-final of the UEFA Champions League.

With the way these defenders have been playing, it is natural to see other big clubs vying for their signatures. The latest Barcelona defender to be linked with a move away is the Frenchman Jules Kounde, as SPORT reports that the Premier League side Arsenal is interested in his signing.

The Gunners are reportedly looking to make a significant effort at the end of this season to get the €60m-rated French defender. This would not be the first time that the London-based club made an effort to sign Kounde, as they already had tried to attract him a few months ago.

However, this time, the Premier League side will put on a more forceful offensive, as they have already shown that they are among the top teams in Europe, and their owners have also guaranteed significant investment to take their team another notch higher next season.

Furthermore, the appointment of the former Atletico Madrid Sporting Director Andrea Berta will also facilitate the English club’s contacts with Barcelona.

The Gunners will reportedly be willing to shell out up to €75 million to sign the defender, a figure significantly higher than the €60 million they were willing to offer last summer.

In addition to Arsenal, Chelsea have also been linked with the French defender in the last few weeks, and with Barcelona’s need to make some sales to generate FFP for new signings and the surplus of defenders in their squad, it would not be entirely unlikely to see the Frenchman leaving the Blaugrana club next summer even though the Catalans are more than satisfied with his performances.
