The Blades finished rock bottom with just 16 points and conceded a Premier League record 104 goals in 38 matches, making a swift and unwanted return to the second tier.

Chris Wilder is expected to overhaul his squad and United have already confirmed Chris Basham, George Baldock, Oliver Norwood, Wes Foderingham, and Max Lowe will all be released when their current deals expire in the summer.

More departures are expected with a number of players who could head out on loan to continue their development.

Here, Football League World takes a look at which players could leave Bramall Lane on loan this summer.

Antwoine Hackford

Antwoine Hackford featured in the Blades' first two Premier League games last season, but then returned to the club's Under-18 squad and was eventually loaned out to Burton Albion in February.

The 20-year-old had limited chances at the Pirelli Stadium, featuring just six times for Albion with all appearances coming as a substitute.

Hackford's raw pace made him an instant threat in the Under-18 Premier League and the Blades should give him the chance to prove his worth away from Bramall Lane again this season.

Billy Blacker

Billy Blacker is yet to make his professional debut and being thrown in at the deep end in the Championship, even as a squad player, may not be the ideal introduction to life in the Blades senior squad.

The left-winger has impressed for the United Under-18 team, scoring three goals in three FA Youth Cup appearances and registered an assist in his Under-21 debut against Newcastle United.

The 18-year-old is a promising prospect and could earn himself a role at United in the future, but a move away from Bramall Lane to a club down the EFL pyramid may suit him best at this stage of his career.

Jilly Buyabu

The left-back made his senior debut for the Blades last season, playing 27 minutes in the defeat against Lincoln City in the second round of the Carabao Cup and was included in the matchday squad for the games against Manchester United in October and Crystal Palace in January, but did not play.

Jilly Buyabu spent the second half of last season on loan at Motherwell, but did not feature at all in the Scottish Premiership and was restricted to a single appearance in the Scottish Cup.

The 18-year-old needs to play him regularly in order to develop and United will in all likelihood strongly consider sending him out on loan again this season, hoping for a much more successful spell than his stint north of the border.

Wilder isn't exactly spoilt for choices at left-back, but Buyabu is unlikely to be the answer to that particular conundrum for the time being.

Femi Seriki

The right-back made the matchday squad on 12 occasions last season, but did not play a single minute of football for United and his only appearance came as he started the 4-0 win over Gillingham in the third round of the FA Cup.

Femi Seriki was shipped out to Rotherham on loan in January, but the move was not exactly a roaring success as he started just two of his 10 appearances.

The spell at The Millers was Seriki's fourth loan in the past three years and another loan move away from Bramall Lane may be on the cards for him.

But at 22, the defender is running out of time to impress the Blades.

Louie Marsh

Louie Marsh impressed in the Blades' Under-21 set-up last season, scoring 10 goals in the last eight matches of the Professional Development League.

The 20-year-old spent the first half of last season on loan at Doncaster Rovers, but started just two of his six appearances and failed to make his mark in League One.

At the same time, that should not discourage EFL clubs to take a punt on a talented striker, while the Blades will be eager to give Marsh a second chance to impress at senior level.

Sydie Peck

Sydie Peck made his Premier League debut last season against Brentford, but was ruled out for the remainder of last season after undergoing surgery on his left knee in January.

The teenage midfielder, a former Arsenal academy product, has shown plenty of promise at youth level, scoring in the Premier League Under-18 and in the FA Youth Cup and there are high hopes for him at Bramall Lane.

At 19, a loan move may be the best way for United to allow him to develop into the player they hope he can be.
