During their seven-year stay in the Premier League, Swansea City were fortunate to have a number of talented players on their books who took the league by storm.

The likes of Michel Vorm, Jonathan De Guzman, Michu, Gylfi Sigurdsson and Wilfried Bony all featured for the club during an era which saw the Swans become an established Premier League club and win the League Cup in 2013.

However, there were also a number of players who were brought in and failed miserably at the club, one of whom was Portuguese striker Eder.

The big striker was brought to the club in the summer of 2015 from SC Braga, and he seemed a decent option, bolstering Swansea's attacking depth with the likes of Bafetimbi Gomis, Andre Ayew and Marvin Emnes already in the squad.

However, he would endure one of the most bizarre seasons in history, and he failed to score a goal for Swansea, before leaving on loan in January and then somehow scoring the winning goal in the final of the Euros for Portugal the following summer.

Eder's time at Swansea City

After finishing 8th in the Premier League the previous season, Garry Monk moved to strengthen his side in the summer of 2015, and spent £5million to bring Eder to the club.

Having experienced both European and international football with SC Braga and Portugal respectively, Eder seemed a decent addition to Swansea's ranks, but it didn't work out like that.

In total, Eder made just four starts for Swansea, only two of which came in the Premier League, and he played the full 90 minutes just once, coming against York City in a League Cup tie.

He made 15 appearances in total, but failed to score a goal in a Swansea City shirt, and was shipped out on loan to French outfit Lille in the January transfer window.

He fared better in France, and scored six times in 13 Ligue 1 games to earn himself a call-up to Portugal's squad for the 2016 European Championships.

Eder became Portugal's hero at Euro 2016

As expected, Eder played a bit part role at Euro 2016 for a Portugal side that made hard work of their journey to the latter stages.

He played just 13 minutes until the final, coming off the bench for six minutes and seven minutes in the group stage against Iceland and Austria respectively.

His side progressed to the next round despite not winning a game in the group stage, and wins in extra time against Croatia, and on penalties against Poland meant they met his club's national side, Wales, in the semi-finals.

Portugal dispatched Chris Coleman's side 2-0 and Eder's side were through to the final where they would meet France.

As expected, Eder was on the bench, but with 11 minutes of normal time remaining, manager Fernardo Santos brought him on for fellow Swansea flop Renato Sanches as they looked to win the game.

Incredibly, with the game in the second-half of extra-time, Eder scored from long range in what was his one and only competitive Portugal goal, which led to bemusement from Swansea supporters who had never seen the striker score.

The irony wasn't lost on the Jack Army that a player who had failed to score a goal in 90 minutes of a League Cup tie against York City had scored the winning goal on the biggest stage of them all.

Portugal would go on to win 1-0, and Eder became a national hero, but his Swansea spell was to come to an end.

Eder's career after Euro 2016

Eder joined Lille on a permanent basis in the summer of 2016, but would spend just a year in France before he was on the move again.

He joined Lokomotiv Moscow in 2017, and he spent four years in Russia, scoring just 15 times in 119 appearances in what was a really poor return before finishing his career with Saudi side Al Raed, before ending his career in 2022.

Eder's career certainly wasn't one of a typical European Championship final goalscorer, and many Swansea supporters are to this day still shocked that the Eder they saw score in the final of the Euros was the one who played for their club.
