Grimsby Town have made a very comfortable step up to League Two this season after a dramatic promotion via the National League play-offs and will be quietly optimistic about ruffling some feathers in the top six chasing pack in the fourth tier.
Three defeats on the bounce has been something of a reality check for Paul Hurst’s men but they have the chance to respond in hosting high flying Stevenage on Saturday.
One of the individual success stories so far for the Mariners has been the performances of Anthony Glennon at left back, after the 22-year-old signed from Burnley in the summer.
Glennon is on the radar of Sunderland, Sheffield Wednesday and Hull City, according to Football Insider, and will be hoping to use the spotlight on League Two in the coming weeks, to enhance his chances of earning a progressive move in the January transfer window.
Here, we have taken a deeper look at some of the numbers behind Glennon’s season so far in our latest performance in numbers piece…
For the most part, these days, full backs have to show some kind of attacking quality to earn a move up the EFL and Glennon has certainly done that in the fourth tier.
The 22-year-old has chipped in with one goal and three assists, creating chances equating to a value of 3.85 expected assists (xA) as per Wyscout.
That value of 3.85 xA is made up of 26 different shot assists, 1.53 per 90 minutes, demonstrating the regularity of which he is creating shooting opportunities for the Mariners.

Glennon has not neglected defensive duties in contributing more going forwards, winning 54.6% of his defensive duels so far this term.
A number that definitely leaves room for improvement but considering that it is his first full season in League Two, he has played in the fourth tier in two previous loan spells, that figure could see an upturn as the campaign progresses.
Glennon has not been fortunate in chipping in with assists, probing away with an average of 6.78 passes into the final third per 90 minutes, showing his eye for a pass and positivity in possession.
It will be interesting to monitor interest in Glennon come January, with Sheffield Wednesday possibly the most natural fit given their lack of depth in his position.
