The prodigal son returns

Spice rating: Mild 🌶

José Bordalás returns to the Coliseum Alfonso Pérez for the first time since leaving to take over at Valencia last summer.

‘Pepe’ spent five years at Getafe, going down as one of the most successful coaches in the club’s modern history.

He followed promotion in his first season by leading the club to their highest-ever finish (fifth) which led to a run in the Europa League that contained a stunning win over Ajax.

The 58-year-old has continued his success at the Mestalla with a Copa del Rey final on the horizon but mid-table looks to be the maximum they can achieve in the league this season.

Getafe lie only three points above the relegation zone and although the reunion should be amicable, it could soon turn hostile if Valencia’s dirty tactics begin to stifle the hosts.

Julian Nagelsmann goes back to where it all began.

He became the youngest ever Bundesliga manager at 28 when he took charge of Hoffenheim back in 2015 – the beginning of a path which has now led to him to the Bayern Munich dugout.

The 7-1 thrashing of RB Salzburg has sealed Die Roten’s place in the Champions League quarter-finals and now it’s back to the business of winning a 10th-straight league title.

Bayern hold a nine-point gap over second-placed Borussia Dortmund as the crown appears to be edging closer but one of the trickiest tasks they have left to overcome awaits them at the PreZero Arena.

Hoffenheim hold all the cards in the top four race at the moment and head into the weekend off the back of four straight wins.

Could they plant a twist in the title race?

Decisive day in Denmark

Our next pick takes us to Denmark this weekend for a battle between the tip two in the Dänische Superliga.

FC Copenhagen travel to Herning and Ikast three points ahead of their hosts for the penultimate match of the regular season knowing a point will see them seal top spot.

A disappointing draw with OB recently has severely blunted Midtylland’s hopes meaning it’s all-or-nothing when they take to the pitch on Sunday.

Can they force one of the closest races to the final day?

Conte determined to show United what they could’ve had

If things had worked out slightly different in November, Antonio Conte could have been sitting the Manchester United dugout this weekend.

Instead, United held on to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer for a little while longer as Spurs hired the Italian following the departure of Nuno Espírito Santo after the Red Devils ran away 3-0 winners in the reverse of this fixture.

Ralf Rangnick’s in charge now and whether the clubs will be vindicated for their managerial decisions will be determined at the end of the season.

Tottenham can deliver a devastating blow to United’s top four hopes if they win on Saturday, while overtaking them in the process.

The Lilywhites enjoy taking trips to Manchester nowadays. They stunned Manchester City with an incredible win at the Etihad recently while they hit six past United on their last visit to Old Trafford.

Any more slip-ups from Rangnick’s side could end their plans for Champions League football next season.

Derby day in Germany

Spice rating: Insane 🌶 🌶 🌶 🌶 🌶

We know, we’ve already offered up a selection from the Bundesliga this weekend but let us indulge – we think we have a case.

Although FC Köln meeting Bayer Leverkusen isn’t as fierce as the clashes between Borussia Mönchengladbach and the former there is still enough hatred between both sides in this version of the Rhine derby.

It stings those at the RheinEnergieSTADION that Florian Wirtz slipped through their grasps and is now thriving in Leverkusen colours as one of the hottest prospects in European football.

The teenager has 10 goals and 14 assists to his name so far this season and will be pivotal if Leverkusen are to keep up their unbeaten record at home against Köln since 2011.

A win for Steffen Baumgart’s side would see them move to within six points of their hosts and throw themselves right into contention for the top four.

This should be tasty.
