After 100 long days, Premier League football finally returned to our lives.

But expecting players to hit top form after a lengthy absence felt somewhat unrealistic.

There are January signings who give you a boost for the rest of the season; and then there’s Bruno Fernandes.

The Portugal international has completely transformed Manchester United, linking midfield and attack, providing goal threat and genuine craft.

Three goals in three matches and his budding relationship with Paul Pogba? Delicious.

Allan Saint-Maximin

  2. Club: Newcastle United

Name every Premier League player that’s more entertaining to watch than Allan Saint-Maximin. Spoiler alert: you can’t.

The Frenchman has returned with a spring in his step, terrorising defences with fancy footwork and devastating speed – and end product!

His goal and three assists have been crucial for Newcastle in their post-lockdown resurgence.

Phil Foden

  2. Club: Manchester City

Pep Guardiola has taken some flack for his management of Phil Foden, but there can be no complaints now.

The Stockport-born midfielder has made two starts with David Silva being slowly phased out – and looks completely natural.

Goals against Arsenal and Liverpool prove he can do it against top opposition and City fans should be very excited.

Danny Ings

  2. Club: Southampton

All the familiar names are challenging for the golden boot and … who’s that creeping in? Goal machine Danny Ings.

Eyebrows were raised when Southampton spent £20m bringing him to St Mary’s after his difficult spell at Liverpool.

But that’s now 15 goals this season, and his three goals since the restart have guided Ralph Hasenhüttl’s men to safety.

Ben Mee

  1. Age: 30
  2. Club: Burnley

After their 5-0 hammering against Manchester City, Burnley heads could easily have dropped for the rest of the season.

But Ben Mee had different ideas. They’ve since won their following games against Watford and Crystal Palace – keeping clean sheets in both.

The Clarets captain also scored a huge goal at Selhurst Park that leaves the club fighting for European football … just!
