A shock development on Tuesday afternoon has seen Hull City part ways with head coach, Liam Rosenior.

Despite progressing the club from 16th to a seventh-placed finish in his first full season, a brutal decision which has come as complete surprise to Tigers supporters and the wider footballing world has seen the City head coach vacate his position in the dugout.

This comes just months after Acun Ilicali rewarded the 39-year-old with a contract extension until the summer of 2026, but it seems like the Turkish media mogul has ripped up those plans and has decided to pursue his dreams of bringing Premier League football back to East Yorkshire with a different name, just weeks after Rosenior was nominated for the Championship 'Manager of the Season' award.

The likes of talkSPORT and Sky Sports have issued breaking news stories, although official confirmation from the club awaits.

With that in mind, FLW looks at five replacements the City hierarchy could make ahead of another summer of change at the MKM Stadium.

Steve Cooper

Beginning this list is former Nottingham Forest boss, Steve Cooper.

Cooper has been out of work since his dismissal from the Premier League outfit last December, and therefore, the Tigers would have to pay no compensation to entice him to the MKM Stadium.

Cooper was renowned for his progressive spells at Swansea City, where he reached the Championship Play-Off Final with a young squad in 2021, before achieving promotion in the same game a year later with Forest.

Given his achievements at second tier level and know-how of developing young talent, Cooper is of a similar ilk to Rosenior in the latter of those regards.

Pedro Martins

Pedro Martins was linked with the vacancy in East Yorkshire following Shota Arveladze's departure in the autumn of 2022, and was even present in the stands to watch a 2-1 victory over Wigan Athletic.

Although a deal between both parties fell through just days later, Martins described the approach by the Championship club as an "honour". Therefore, if there aren't any hard feelings between the two parties almost two years apart, could a deal be struck this time around that sees the Al-Gharafa head coach take over the reins?

Will Still

Having departed from Stade de Reims just days ago, Will Still is now available on the market, and with Ilicali's mentality of wanting big names to surround the club, it wouldn't be a surprise to see the young head coach linked.

The Tigers may face strong competition from divisional rivals Sunderland, but his record speaks for itself, averaging 1.29 points per game in Ligue 1 in 31 games, leading them to 11th-place last season, before departing last Thursday with the club in exactly the same position.

Graham Potter

Probably the most outlandish of the five managers on this list, but Ilicali may be tempted to go all-out on a big name for Championship standards, such as Graham Potter.

Potter of course has previous experience at this level with Swansea City, before going on to take charge of Brighton and Chelsea.

Potter was linked with the Stoke City job after Alex Neil's departure, as well as being on Leicester City's radar prior to their successful appointment of Enzo Maresca.

If Hull are serious about reaching the Premier League next season, a head coach of Potter's stature would definitely match those ambitions.

Danny Rohl

Danny Rohl rounds off this quintet, having worked wonders at City's Yorkshire rivals, Sheffield Wednesday.

The Owls were winless at the time of his early-October appointment, before going on to secure their safety on the final day of the season with a 2-0 victory over Sunderland, arguably one of the division's best escape acts.

Rohl has made Wednesday extremely resolute at the back, as well as a high-intensity style of play which has brought the best out of a squad that previously looked devoid of ideas under Xisco Munoz.
