Manchester United wonderkid Chido Obi-Martin is reportedly set to earn a promotion to playing for the club’s Under-19s or even the Under-21s after performing so well for their Under-18 side.

Obi-Martin joined Man Utd from Arsenal in the summer, and he arrived with a big reputation after an insanely prolific spell with the Gunners.

Still only 16 years of age, Obi-Martin once scored ten goals in a single game against Liverpool at youth level for Arsenal, while on another occasion he netted seven times in a 9-0 win over Norwich City.

Obi-Martin is now in superb form for the Red Devils as well, scoring four goals and contributing one assist in just two starts for their Under-18s.

According to the Manchester Evening News, this looks to have earned the Danish forward a call-up to playing for the Under-19s in the UEFA Youth League.

Is Chido Obi-Martin getting closer to the Man United first-team?

It’s surely too early to be talking about such a young player moving up into the senior team, but Obi-Martin’s numbers are pretty phenomenal, so it remains to be seen if he really has that much more to gain from continuing to play at the level he’s at now.

Some players develop at an earlier age than others, and it could be that Obi-Martin will be ready to make the step up to the very highest level earlier than people would normally expect.

MUFC have a proud history of promoting young players, so their fans will hope Obi-Martin can be their academy’s next success story, even if he’s a player who’s mostly been developed by Arsenal.

The Gunners are also producing a lot of elite youngsters at the moment, with Bukayo Saka the shining example from recent years, while Ethan Nwaneri and Myles Lewis-Skelly now look like two more to watch.

Obi-Martin may have taken his career elsewhere, but is another Arsenal product doing well, as are others like Emile Smith Rowe and Reiss Nelson at Fulham.
