Arsenal’s men and women both drew at the weekend as the club’s search for a senior win in 2022 continues.

Moving my way through the papers this morning, you can imagine my surprise to find there were no articles lauding Arsenal for including five Premier League debutants on the bench and a host of 18-year-olds, who have never pulled on a senior Arsenal shirt.

That sort of thing seems saved for Leeds.

Arsenal were quite clearly exhausted against Burnley and fielding players who were far from fully fit.

While they should have still had enough to see off the Clarets, it was interesting, yet unsurprising, to find that they have, of course, been judged completely differently than Marcelo Bielsa’s men.

The Daily Mail even took some time out to remind us that Arsenal asked for a game to be called off, in case you missed that recently:

The Daily Mail also used Chelsea’s win over Tottenham as a chance to wheel out the ‘London Derby’ table, something they do for no other part of the country.

Arsenal are currently second in the ‘London Derby’ table.

In actual news, there is little as we head into another interlull on the back of a poor result.

Takehiro Tomiyasu will be out for a ‘few weeks’with a tight calf, which hopefully means he will be back after the international break that is now upon us.

Arsenal’s women grabbed a late draw at Manchester City thanks to Tobin Heath’s injury-time equaliser, and we will have more on that later today from Sylvain.

What that draw meant, amongst other things, is that neither Arsenal’s men, nor their women, have won a game in 2022.

The men have lost 2-1 to City, lost 1-0 to Nottingham Forest, lost 2-0 to Liverpool over two legs in the Carabao Cup and, of course, their 0-0 draw with Burnley this weekend.

The women have lost 2-0 at Birmingham, 1-0 at United and, of course, their most recent draw at City.

Alex Iwobi lasted just seven minutes of Nigeria’s game against Tunisia in the Africa Cup of Nations, and that was only because the referee took so long to change his yellow to red.

Coming on as a 59th minute substitute, Iwobi was sent off in the 66th minute for a lunge on Youssef Msakini.

The former Arsenal man initially received a yellow card after just four minutes on the pitch for the ‘challenge’ but after a few minutes deliberation, it was turned into a red.

Nigeria lost the game 1-0 and went out of the tournament.

Burnley are said to have revived their interest in signing Aaron Ramsey from Juventus. The former Arsenal midfielder has been told he can leave and the Old Lady will help subsidise his wages for what seems an inevitable return to the Premier League.

Danny Welbeck scored in the 82 minute for Brighton to grab a 1-1 draw at Leicester on Sunday. It was his third goal of the season, after missing a large chunk of it with a hamstring injury, and his second in the last 117 league minutes.

It came after Aston Villa’s Lucas Digne was hit by a bottle thrown by an Everton fan.
