It’s starting to feel like the writing’s on the wall for Erik ten Hag at Manchester United.

The usual round of dressing room leaks have begun in earnest and results on the pitch continue to sway from fine to dreadful.

A defeat at Copenhagen later today could well be the death knell for the Dutchman.

United beat their Danish counterparts in the corresponding fixture a few weeks ago but they needed some heroics from André Onana and Harry Maguire to get them out of a hole.

We’ve already seen from their draw in Istanbul and narrow defeat at home to Bayern Munich that Copenhagen won’t roll over when the Red Devils come to town.

A loss for Ten Hag, with his side going bottom of Group A, could well be the beginning of the end.

Will Union Berlin finally win a game?

Union Berlin fans certainly won’t want any sympathy but it’s hard not to feel for a club who have lost 12 consecutive matches in all competitions.

After last season’s stunning run to a top four place in the Bundesliga, Urs Fischer’s side have struggled this time around with a raft of new additions and the weight of expectation.

It’s been one heartbreak after another for the capital club in the Champions League with late defeats to Real Madrid and Braga and then another narrow loss at home to Napoli.

Union travel to Naples this week hoping to get one over on a Partenopei side who are in the midst of their own mini resurgence.

Since president Aurelio De Laurentiis called into question the future of coach Rudi Garcia, Napoli have won three and drawn one of their last four games.

It’s going to be tough for Union to stop the rot.

Have Arsenal hit a wall?

Mikel Arteta has doubled down on his comments about the refereeing in Arsenal’s loss to Newcastle at the weekend.

Arteta was roundly criticised in the English press after that 1-0 defeat, with Gary Neville going so far as to say the Spaniard’s highlighting of the officials mistake was “classless.”

But is it all a cover for the Gunners’ pretty ropey run of form of the past couple of games?

The north London side were clearly let down by the officiating at St James’ Park but that didn’t stop them looking completely blunt in attack with Bukayo Saka looking like a shell of his former self.

Saka has had just one shot on target in his last three games and, from the Newcastle evidence anyway, it seems like sides may have worked out how to stop Arsenal in their attacking third.

The Emirates outfit now take on Sevilla and although there should be no panic stations just yet at the club, a defeat against the Andalusian outfit will certainly sharpen the focus on Arteta and his antics.

Are Real Sociedad the surprise of this season’s competition?

They may have had a slightly indifferent time of things in LaLiga this season but in the Champions League, Real Sociedad are looking like the real deal.

La Real impressed in their opening game against group heavyweights Inter but were held to a draw thanks to a late Lautaro Martínez strike.

Imanol Alguacil’s men could have licked their wounds after that but bounced back with two brilliant wins against Salzburg and Benfica.

The latter of those victories in Lisbon showed everything that La Real are about – well-organised, making smart decisions with the ball and allowing just three shots on target.

Benfica now travel to the Anoeta with the home side knowing that three points, and an Inter win against the Austrians, will see them into the last 16.

Will Galatasaray spring a surprise at Bayern?

If you want some guaranteed goals in this season’s group stages, watch Galatasaray.

The Turkish Süper Lig leaders have won one, drawn one and lost one of their games so far but the final results really only tell half the story.

Their most recent defeat to Bayern was a case in point with Gala arguably on top for around an hour but, having failed to take their chances, eventually wound up 3-1 losers.

The Istanbul giants now travel to Bavaria to take on Thomas Tuchel’s men and have everything in their locker to spring a surprise.

In Wilfried Zaha they have a winger who is in a rich vein of form, having netted twice in their win against Kasimpasa on Friday.

In fact, Gala are yet to lose a game domestically this season with Mauro Icardi also starring in his lone striker role.

Perhaps the biggest hurdle Gala will have to overcome to win at the Allianz Arena is the weight of history – Bayern have not lost a home game in the group stage of the Champions League for 10 years.
