Manchester United winger Antony is more likely to join Wolverhampton Wanderers on loan rather than reuniting with Ajax, according to Bart Sanders.

The Brazil international joined the Red Devils from Ajax for a staggering £85 million two years ago, but he has yet to make a big impression for the club.

The attacker is no longer an assured starter for the Mancunian giants and he has been a regular unused substitute under manager Erik ten Hag this term.

There has been talk of Antony being loaned out at the turn of the year. The hierarchy want to increase his transfer value before selling him next summer.

Speaking on the Pantelic podcast, Sanders believes Antony is unlikely to rejoin Ajax on loan as the Red Devils would incur a ‘loss of face’ situation.

He added that the 24-year-old could easily end up at Porto, Benfica or Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Sanders said: “The more serious media have said something about it, but Antony returns to Ajax on loan… I don’t see it happening. Manchester United will never do this from a loss of face perspective.

“As a club, you look like a complete idiot if you sign someone for a hundred million euros and two years later you rent him back to his old club. That is a loss of face of the highest order, isn’t it?!

“He could easily go to FC Porto, Benfica, Wolves… There are enough other teams. Antony did very poorly at Manchester United, of course, but he also showed himself in the year that Ajax won six group matches in the Champions League.”

Antony to Wolves would be a good short-term move

The Sao Paulo graduate has fallen out-of-favour at United and he is presently behind Alejandro Garnacho and Amad Diallo in the pecking order for the right wing position.

Antony has barely found success in another attacking role. His one-dimensional ability means that he may have to leave the Red Devils in order to revive his playing career.

A temporary move to Wolves would make sense in our opinion. Wolves have lacked a genuine attacking threat on the right flank after Pedro Neto’s summer switch to Chelsea.

Antony could have an assured starting position at the Midlands outfit. This could help in renewing his confidence as well as regain his form from his time in Amsterdam.

United are aiming to recoup at least £40m from his summer sale. A good loan stint in the Premier League could increase their prospects of securing such a transfer fee.
