The biggest announcement this week was, of course, the arrival of Ben White from Brighton for £50m on a five-year contract, but he was far from the only new face to arrive at the club.

Fulham academy striker, Mika Biereth signed, agreeing his first professional contract with the Gunners.

“It feels great and I’m really excited to be here,” Mika said. “It’s a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity and I couldn’t really turn it down. I think now with the recent track record of youth going into the first team, I thought it was a great project to try and be a part of.”

Biereth was arguably the standout player in u18 Premier League football last season. His tally of 21 goals in 21 games, with just two penalties, was the best in the south Division.

The striker added another 13 assists in those games, bringing him to a total of 34 league goals and assists – unmatched in the north or the south divisions. No one else got more than 30 in 2020/21.

Frida Maanum has joined the women’s team, and got a run-out against Chelsea in their match before the men face the same side in the Mind Series. Maanum spent the last four years of her career in Sweden with Linkopings FC.

Finally, Kevin Balvers arrived as Arsenal hired their first ever Football Methodology Analyst, and you can read more about what that job will entail here.

In terms of outgoings, Tyreece John-Jules joined Blackpool on loan. It marks a step up for the striker, after spending two previous spells in League One.

John-Jules said of the move: “I’m delighted to be here and can’t wait to meet the lads and get out onto the pitch.

“I’ve spent the last couple of seasons on loan in League One and wanted to challenge myself at the next level, and there’s no better place to come than Blackpool to do just that.

“I spoke to the gaffer before joining and he made me feel comfortable and excited for the journey here, so I’m really excited for this coming season.”
