Premier League champions-elect Liverpool turn their attention to Champions League football with a Wednesday night showdown against Paris Saint-Germain on the cards.

Barring a dead-rubber defeat against PSV Eindhoven in their final League Phase fixture, the Reds have been dominant in the Champions League, swatting aside continental foes with a minimum of fuss.

Arne Slot’s side won all of their first seven Champions League games, including wins against continental powerhouses such as seven-time champions AC Milan and title holders Real Madrid.

That remarkable run preceded the inconsequential 3-2 defeat against PSV in the Netherlands on match day eight, but the Reds still punched their ticket to the knockout rounds comfortably.

With the Premier League title race all but wrapped up – with Liverpool holding a 13-point lead with ten games left – the Reds will be hoping to further their Champions League ambitions at PSG’s expense.

Unlike their English counterparts, the French giants’ journey to the last 16 was far from smooth sailing. They needed to go through the play-offs but made light work of French rivals Brest, running out 10-0 winners on aggregate.

PSG are currently enjoying a ten-match winning streak across all competitions, but Liverpool will still fancy their chances of getting past the French champions, although they may have to do so without a key player.

How Liverpool could line up

PSG will head into Wednesday’s clash of the titans with a clean bill of health, but Liverpool are not quite as fortunate on the injury front.

They’ll be without Tyler Morton, Conor Bradley, and Joe Gomez, but Slot will be particularly concerned about Cody Gakpo.

The Dutchman is a doubt after picking up a knock, but he made the trip to Paris with the rest of the squad.

In his absence, Slot will likely turn to Diogo Jota to lead the line while Luis Diaz takes Gakpo’s place on the left flank.
