For Real Madrid, nothing is impossible at their home stadium, where they have bounced back in nail-biting ties that have become part of football history. One of the most memorable of these came against Borussia Mönchengladbach in the 1985/86 UEFA Cup last 16. The madridistas slipped to a 5-1 defeat in the first leg but then produced a stunning 4-0 win in the second leg.
The Whites besieged the German goal right from the kick-off and by the 20th minute they had already scored twice - both headers by Valdano. The Bernabéu faithful roared their team on and Santillana made it 3-0 in the second half. The Cantabrian striker then netted the decisive goal in an epic last minute.
Madridistas jump for joy Juanito was substituted with the score at 4-0. As he headed to the touchline, he portrayed his joy by jumping up and down reflecting the euphoria of the entire Madrid fanbase. This comeback against Borussia ensured that the Whites stayed on course for their second UEFA Cup triumph.
