Benoit Badiashile remains highly regarded at Chelsea despite falling behind Levi Colwill and Wesley Fofana according to The Athletic.

The 23-year-old was one of many signings made in a hectic January 2023 window as he arrived from Monaco in a deal worth £35m.

The France international slotted seamlessly into Graham Potter’s struggling Chelsea side and put in a series of impressive performances as he instantly adapted to the Premier League.

Chelsea believe Badiashile still has hit best years ahead of him

Badiashile picked up an injury at the backend of the 2022/2023 season which ruled him out for a number of months and was a real setback.

Despite making 22 appearances in all competitions last season, with 18 of those in the Premier League Badiashile looked a shadow of the player he was.

The Frenchman made a number of errors and it looked like he had lost all confidence in his ability, although things have started to change this season.

Wesley Fofana and Levi Colwill are Enzo Maresca’s first choice partnership and Badiashile has had to be patient and make do with minutes in the cup competitions.

He didn’t get his first Premier league minutes until October’s defeat against Liverpool, with his first start coming last month against Leicester.

His lack of action has seen him linked with a move away, although Chelsea put out a briefing to shut that down and insist he remains a big part of the project.

The Athletic have reported Badiashile remains highly valued by the Blues and they believe he’s making positive steps forward and still has his best years ahead of him.

With Fofana out injured it now represents Badiashile with potentially a big opportunity to have a run of games in the side, although Maresca refused to confirm who Fofana’s replacement would be.

Badiashile is expected to replace his countryman and he could have a real opportunity to send a message to Maresca to say he should be featuring on a regular basis.
