Competition is what drives the best to be who they are, and this is especially true at FC Barcelona. Whenever there are multiple top players competing for the same position, players tend to showcase their best versions. Similarly, when there is not a lot of competition, even players at Barcelona can slack off.

Fortunately for Hansi Flick and this current Barça team, competition for places is quite clearly present. Almost every single position on the field has several talented players fighting to make it their own, and this drives each and every single team regular to perform week in and week out.

Furthermore, Flick’s willingness to give out chances to each and every single player has further helped this method out. Ferran Torres, aged 24, is a Spanish forward who has made the most out of these opportunities, despite the fact that they can be irregular in nature at times.

Moreover, according to AS, his recent performances could now be strong enough to even directly challenge Robert Lewandowski. While the Polish ace shares a storied past with Flick, and also retains his position as arguably Europe’s most dangerous centre-forward right now, Torres is picking up some serious speed himself.

Nicknamed ‘the Shark’ because of his intensity and his predator-like instincts inside the opposition box, Torres offers some unique qualities that separate him from Lewandowski himself. However, if one thing remains consistent between both of them, it is their scoring ability.

In the last three consecutive games, Ferran Torres has scored four goals. One against RCD Mallorca, followed by one more against Real Betis, before netting twice against Borussia Dortmund in his most recent cameo in the UEFA Champions League.

After the game, as he continues his sensational scoring streak, he even spoke about team morale and praised his own teammates as well:

“I came out to help the team. With players like Lamine and Pedri playing a great game, all I had to do was run into space. Matches like this strengthen team spirit and morale. We’ve regained our rhythm.”

As the €30 million-rated forward continues to knock on Flick’s door to give him more regular opportunities as a starter, pressure is beginning to pile up on Lewandowski. The Polish striker will be expected to strike back, and it remains to be seen if he can manage to do that in the next game or if Torres will end up grabbing the headlines then as well.
