The 2026 FIFA World Cup in the United States, Mexico, and Canada is slowly, but surely creeping up on us.

With just one more domestic campaign of football ahead of us before the world's biggest stars flock to North America for the prestigious tournament, players still in search of assurances regarding their participation in the tournament will be looking to make the next big move in their careers.

1. Gio Reyna

Reyna was once seen as a future superstar for the USMNT, but injuries and a lack of playing time at Borussia Dortmund has derailed the attacker's career in a major way.

Reyna has been struggling for minutes at Borussia Dortmund, racking up only 341 league minutes and two goals in the entire 2024/25 season, plus a mere 12 minutes at the Club World Cup.

While still just 22-years-old, Reyna is in desperate need of a change of scenery, and a destination where he will play big minutes. Luckily for the American, Serie A side Parma have registered major interest in services, though Borussia Dortmund remain stubborn in their asking price.

2. Diego Luna

Luna exploded onto the USMNT scene in recent months after becoming a key player for Pochettino at the 2025 Gold Cup. The Real Salt Lake star has perhaps already cemented himself as a pick for the World Cup roster, but he is slightly hamstrung by playing for a mid-level MLS side.

Now playing in MLS does certainly not disqualify a player from making the World Cup roster, but Luna has shown he is more than capable of taking his game to the next level in a better team and better league.

Luna has been linked with a move to LaLiga outfit Celta Vigo, but he must be sure he will regularly feature for the historic Spanish club.

While a move to a higher level feels like an imminent necessity for the 21-year-old California native, it can not come at the expense of playing time.

3. Matt Turner

Few players' stock have fallen quite like that of Matt Turner. The former New England Revolution man seemed to have fully cemented himself as the long-term number-one keeper during the Gregg Berhalter era, but fading into obscurity on the domestic front has seemingly plunged him into a dog-fight for a role in the team.

After leaving MLS in 2022 for Arsenal, Turner has seen himself slip down the pecking order at just about every club he has moved to (Nottingham Forest and Crystal Palace).

With his limited playing time, Pochettino has made it clear that the likes of Matt Freese, who excelled at the Gold Cup, and perhaps even Zack Steffen are truly within a shout of the starting role.

French outfit Lyon have reportedly made the move to sign Turner, but with the club's financial crisis hamstringing their summer transfer window, the deal looks to have collapsed. For now, Turner remains on the periphery at Crystal Palace.
