We’ve just written about Enzo Maresca’s team sheet for this afternoon’s massive game against Ipswich as Chelsea battle for a top 5 place.

In that piece we focused on three things we don’t want to see from the coach, who continues to frustrate with some of his decisions in terms of selection and rotation.

But what DO we want to see? We’re facing lowly opposition, but a team who beat us in the New Year’s Eve game which really seemed to trigger our slump into the second part of the season. We can’t underestimate them again, but we need to get this team right.

Three things we want to see from Maresca to help Chelsea to 3 vital points

Number one on the list of things we want to see is Maresca pick our most productive front 3. That means Nicolas Jackson up top, Pedro Neto on one flank and Noni Madueke on the other. We know Jadon Sancho grabbed a couple of assists in midweek, but that shouldn’t change anything. Against a team that’s going to sit deep we need shooters and individual skill to break them down.

Number two is a fast start – against Legia Warsaw we only woke up in the second half. Against Brentford we only brought on our best attackers after the break, and it cost us. We need to start with our best team, and that team needs to come out of the blocks quick.

Number three is a chance for Tyrique George to follow up his first senior goal with more important minutes in a game that matter. If we’re chasing a goal late in the game, we really hope Enzo doesn’t fall back on Sancho or another more experienced player when George clearly brings so much more dynamism. He hasn’t let you down yet, coach, so trust him.
