Sheffield Wednesday lost some ground in their automatic promotion pursuit last night, with Plymouth Argyle running out as 2-1 winners over the Owls.
Ryan Hardie opened the scoring for the hosts in the third minute before Liam Palmer restored parity just four minutes later.
The winner came courtesy of Sam Cosgrove in stoppage time, in what was an excellent showing of what League One football has to offer.
Here, we take a look at three things that we learnt about the Owls during their late defeat last night…
Usual suspects impress
The trusted trio of Barry Bannan, Josh Windass and Liam Palmer all put in strong displays last night, and whilst a lot of attention has gone on the summer signings, the aforementioned trio continues putting in excellent displays.
Bannan was his creative self and created a few openings for his side, whilst Windass’ energy both on and off the ball caused havoc for the Plymouth defence at times.
Palmer, who netted the opener in the seventh minute, was a problem progressing the ball and was defensively solid too.

Clinical touch is needed against the best in this division
As mentioned above, Wednesday created a fair few opportunities and whilst that has to be classed as a positive when playing away at top of the table, they do need to be more clinical.
Windass had a couple of opportunities at 1-1, whilst Michael Smith was presented with a couple of decent chances too.
Given the quality within Wednesday’s squad, they will continue to create chances against the division’s best and once fully firing, that is an exciting prospect for Sheffield Wednesday fans.
Difficulties against the top teams?
The Owls have now picked up just five points from their six games against sides in the top eight of League One.
It remains to be seen if this will be a theme that persists as this third-tier campaign progresses, or if they are able to shake that off.
It will be a while before Sheffield Wednesday face any of the current top eight, which could help them chip away at the likes of Plymouth and Ipswich Town.
