3 things we do not want to see from Enzo Maresca on today’s team sheet

We have to admit, we’ve been a little confused by some of Enzo Maresca’s lineup decisions in recent weeks. But the important thing is that as we come to today’s game against Ipswich with a fresh and rested selection for Enzo Maresca to choose from.
The season is still in our hands, but we need three points, and the first step towards that is Maresca picking the right team. His plan last week against Brentford was to bring on the big guns in the second half, but it backfired and we drew 0-0.
Those dropped points narrowed our margin for error even further – it simply can’t happen again. So what can Maresca do to avoid it? We picked three things we don’t want to see on that teamsheet.

Number one is Christopher Nkunku in the team. He was mystifyingly given two starts in a row last week, against Brentford last weekend and against Legia Warsaw on Thursday night.
He did the same as he’s done in most games recently – absolutely nothing. It’s already been established that Pedro Neto is a more effective option up top than Nkunku, so we’re really not sure why Maresca was so happy to let three points slip away against Brentford by using Nkunku. That mistake can’t be repeated today, and we very much doubt it will be.
Number two is Reece James in midfield. He did a good job against Legia Warsaw, and is always going to be solid wherever you put him. But he’s never more effective than when he’s playing at right wing back, and especially against a weaker team like Ipswich where he should have the run of the flank, he needs to be out wide.
Number three is more rotation at centre back. The endless disruption of chopping and changing continues to hurt us. Give us Trevoh Chalobah and Levi Colwill and be done with it Enzo!
