Sunderland were forced to settle for a point in their clash with Fleetwood Town yesterday as they squandered a two goal lead at Highbury Stadium.

The Black Cats made a fantastic start to the game as Ross Stewart opened the scoring in the 18th minute of the clash.

Aiden McGeady then doubled Sunderland’s advantage in the second-half as he slotted his spot-kick past goalkeeper Alex Cairns.

Callum Morton gave Fleetwood a lifeline in the 81st minute to set up an enthralling end to the game.

The Cod Army then netted an equaliser as Ged Garner fired home a penalty in stoppage-time.

As a result of this minor setback, Sunderland were overtaken by Wigan Athletic in the League One standings as Leam Richardson’s side sealed an impressive 4-1 victory over Accrington Stanley.
