Sheffield Wednesday would have been aiming to back up their recent triumph over Cambridge United by sealing all three points in their showdown with Accrington Stanley last night.
However, the Owls were forced to settle for a draw at Hillsborough as they missed out on the opportunity to climb into the play-off places.
Callum Paterson opened the scoring for the hosts in the 66th minute as he fired home from close range.
Accrington then levelled proceedings in the closing stages of the fixture as Ross Sykes’ header was diverted into his own net by Marvin Johnson.
Here, we have decided to reflect on this fixture by taking a look at THREE things we clearly learnt about Wednesday after their 1-1 draw with Accrington…
Moore’s rotation policy could go on to hinder Wednesday’s play-off aspirations
Wednesday manager Darren Moore once again decided to rotate his team by replacing Jack Hunt and Lee Gregory in the starting eleven with Liam Palmer and Paterson.
Whereas Paterson did justify his selection by scoring in this fixture, Palmer was unable to help his side keep a clean-sheet last night.
Although it would be naive to expect Moore to select the same team week-in, week-out, it could be argued that too much tinkering could end up hindering Wednesday’s play-off aspirations.
It is hardly a surprise that Accrington grew in belief following Barry Bannan’s withdrawal in the 72nd minute of this particular clash.
Whereas the midfielder only managed to record a WhoScored match rating of 6.59 in this fixture, he may have been able to use his wealth of experience to help Wednesday seal victory if he stayed on the pitch.
Bannan will be hoping to add to the 17 direct goal contributions that he has provided at this level during the current campaign when the Owls take on Gillingham on Saturday.

Wednesday cannot afford to dwell on this missed opportunity
Although Wednesday will have every right to feel disappointed by the fact that they were unable to defeat Accrington yesterday, they simply cannot afford to dwell on this result.
With nine games left to play, the Owls know that they will need to pick up points on a regular basis between now and the end of the season if they are to qualify for the play-offs.
Set to face a Gillingham side this weekend who are currently in the relegation zone, Wednesday ought to be confident in their ability to secure a positive result in this particular fixture.
