It was another frustrating result for Ipswich Town as they drew 1-1 with Shrewsbury on Saturday afternoon.

The Tractor Boys had taken a lead early in the match, but once again conceded in the latter stages of the game, with six minutes remaining of normal time when Shaun Whalley equalised for the Shrews.

With that being said, here are three things we clearly learnt about Ipswich Town after the match.

Play-offs hopes surely over

Since Kieran McKenna came in at Ipswich Town, things have been positive, and up until recent weeks, the club were in with a chance of making the top six in League One under the Northern Irishman.

However, after recent results, those play-0ff hopes were slimmed down, and after Saturday, are surely over.

The Tractor Boys are now ninth in League One and eight points adrift of Sunderland in sixth, with just four games remaining, which looks like too much of a mountain to climb in the next few weeks.

Another thing that we learnt about Ipswich Town is that they are really struggling to finish and kill off matches of late.

Speaking after the match, boss Kieran McKenna was clearly left frustrated by their inability to take all three points from the fixture and the fact they allowed their opponents back into the game.

This has been a common theme under the Northern Irishman, with the club drawing three of their last five league matches, with McKenna admitting his side needed to develop a more ruthless and aggressive approach compared to how they are doing things at present in terms of finishing off a match.

Norwood in form

Scoring the first goal for Ipswich Town on Saturday will have been a massive boost for James Norwood, having not scored for the club since January.

The opener on Saturday was Norwood’s fifth goal in League One this season, but McKenna, speaking after the match, was positive with regards to the striker’s performances in training and on the pitch have been impressive in recent weeks and that goals are coming.

“A good goal and I’m pleased for him,” McKenna said, via TWTD.co.uk.

“I think with his performances over the last couple of weeks and in training especially it’s probably been coming, which is why we decided to stick with him and give him that little bit of a run.”

“We’ve been happy with his performances and he’s been having his best spell in training.”

With his contract up in the summer according to Transfermarkt, with the club having the option of a further year, the 31-year-old will be looking to finish the season strongly and add to what is a modest goal tally.
