Birmingham City could be dealt a blow in January as Wolves consider bringing back Dion Sanderson.

The Premier League side aren’t blessed with many options at the back, with Willy Boly and Yerson Mosquera set for relatively lengthy spells on the sidelines.

And, Bruno Lage’s options will be restricted further when Romain Saiss departs for the African Cup of Nations with Morocco later this month.

Therefore, The Athletic reporter Tim Spiers has revealed that Wolves are ready to recall Sanderson, who has featured in 11 games for Blues this season.

Whilst the update states that he could still go out on loan before the January window shuts, it would leave Lee Bowyer short at the back for that period. Plus, if Sanderson impresses at Molineux, there’s every chance they wouldn’t let him leave temporarily again.

So, Blues need to have a plan in place and here we look at THREE centre-backs they should consider…

Filip Benkovic

The Croatian is way down the pecking order at Leicester and will be desperate to get regular football in the next window.

His recent loan spells may cause concern, but Benkovic was outstanding for Celtic a few years ago and is still young. Bowyer could be the man to get the centre-back back on track and he has the potential to do well in the Championship.

Are these 22 Birmingham City stats real or fake?

The club have won promotion to the Premier League on 4+ occasions.

John Souttar

This would be a tough deal to do as there is plenty of interest in the Hearts man, but he is out of contract in the summer so he may be available for a cut-price in the New Year.

If Blues did win the race for the Scotland international they would be getting a reliable performer who could be a key player at St. Andrew’s in the years to come.

Joe Rodon

Bringing in the Spurs man would be a major coup, but it can’t be ruled out.

Rodon doesn’t seem to be in favour under Antonio Conte, and it’s been suggested he wants to leave on loan for regular minutes.

Blues would offer Rodon that and he has shown at Swansea earlier in his career that he is a brilliant operator at this level.
