Plenty to talk about after this one…

On this occasion it is David Punton:

POSITIVES

Credit rating

In what was his 100th game in charge of United, Eddie Howe got the win and proved his worth as a tactician.

A tweak to 4-4-2 was the move we didn’t see coming but it’s worked handsomely.

It was a genuine surprise to see Isak and Wilson both starting up front.

With both out and out strikers on the park it gave Burnley plenty to do and the spaces were there for goals to be scored.

This match was no gimme. It was a well managed away performance, made to look easy, one which Howe really needed after our travel sickness this season.

Burnley were off the back of a draw away at Man Utd and had got to within two points of catching Forest.

Newcastle snuffed that out and sucked the air out of Turf Moor.

History maker

Callum Wilson’s injury record is hugely frustrating but when’s he’s fit he pretty much guarantees you goals.

He’s got the knack of sniffing out the back of the net. It’s like a sixth sense.

The number nine gobbled up the Isak rebound off the keeper to become our second highest all time Premier League goal scorer.

It puts him in with some esteemed company and leaves me thinking we need to keep him this summer, not sell him on.

Dazzling Jacob

Two assists in the game for Jacob Murphy ought not to be overlooked.

He was brilliant and showed what pace and athleticism he offers to the side when he starts.

Honourable mention also for Lewis Hall’s excellent display at full back as his long awaited emergence continued.

We should also credit Sean Longstaff for getting a goal after recent stick he’s been getting on social media.

Not to mention Bruno getting on the act and a return to the side for Joelinton.

NEGATIVES (not many on such a great away day but it did rain in the second half)

On the spot

Any game where a penalty gets missed has to go down as a negative.

Isak never caught it sweet but he was able to atone just a few minutes later.

Diving

Wilson was booked for diving in the first half.

You don’t like to see it. He’s better than that and didn’t need to do it.

Goal farce

Matt Ritchie came off the bench to concede a needless corner which led to their goal and snuffed out the chance of a clean sheet.

It really was farcical and shouldn’t be happening.
