Rivalry Week is upon us during the 2025 Major League Soccer season. Multiple match ups are scheduled between common foes such as Inter Miami vs. Orlando City SC and the Seattle Sounders vs. the Portland Timbers.

Chivas USA was apart of the league from 2005 to 2014. That covered the span from the LA Galaxy's second MLS Cup title until their fifth.

Since then, Chivas folded eleven years ago, a new cross-town nemesis has since penetrated the Galaxy's scope. LAFC has been in MLS since 2018. Over the past seven seasons, these two Los Angeles-based soccer clubs have produced quite a few outstanding soccer games.

El Trafico Clasico, as it has been titled, is the name of the rivalry between the LA Galaxy and LAFC. Their first match was on March 8, 2018, when the LA Galaxy won 4-3 against the then-newcomers. It wasn't until the 2019 MLS Playoffs that LAFC first tasted victory against the Galaxy.

This year, El Trafico Clasico has some extra ammunition to. Former LA Galaxy midfielder Marky Delgado was traded back to LAFC this past winter. A year before that, GM Will Kuntz signed 2022 MLS Cup Finals MVP away from LAFC as veteran John McCarthy inked a deal to be the new goalkeeper for the LA Galaxy in 2024.

Here's a look at perhaps three of the greatest victories for the LA Galaxy over LAFC.

1. March 31st, 2018: LA Galaxy 4, LAFC 3.

Still talked about as one of the most memorable games in MLS history, this comeback win by the Los Angeles Galaxy was epic for multiple reasons.

On this date, not only was it the first regular-season game between LAFC and the Galaxy, but it was international superstar Zlatan Ibrahimović's debut in the league.

Better known as Zlatan, the offensive dynamo gave the LA Galaxy the first win ever in this series. LAFC blew a 3-0 lead after two first half scores by Carlos Vela.

A msique by the Galaxy resulted in an own goal by Daniel Steres. That gave LAFC a three-goal lead early in the second half.

"I just wanted to come in,” he said. “The fans were demanding something and I gave them Zlatan."Zlatan Ibrahimovic, past LA Galaxy star

Sebastian Lletget ended the shutout pitch at the 61st minute. Chris Pontius scored 12 minutes later to cut the deficit down to just one goal.

Then, Zlatan took over. Not only did he tie the game up 3-3 in the 77th minute, he had the game winner during stoppage time.

It took five more games against the LA Galaxy before LAFC beat their new rival. From then on, professional soccer history has been made in Los Angeles.
