Nathan Jones recently revealed to Luton Today that the Hatters would have to move players on before any could arrive in what remains of this month.

The Luton boss has also admitted that there is truth in the rumours regarding the Championship outfit’s interest in Newcastle United starlet Elliot Anderson, further indicating that the club could sanction some departures ahead of Monday’s deadline.

It was a busy summer for the Hatters, with the January transfer window being the polar opposite to the large recruitment drive that saw the likes of Reece Burke, Allan Campbell, Fred Onyedinma and Admiral Muskwe arrive in Bedfordshire.

Here, we take a look at three players who Luton could allow to leave this month to free up space in the squad…

Quiz: Did any of these 25 ex-Luton Town players ever get a red card during their time at the club?

Jake Howells?

Yes No

Dan Potts

Dan Potts has been an excellent servant to the football club, enjoying the rise from League Two to the Championship, however, now would be a natural time for the full-back to depart.

The 27-year-old has featured just twice in the Championship all season, with the left-back not suited for the wing-back role that Luton have shifted to.

Potts has the defensive capabilities and technique to operate at the top end of League One, although, it remains to be seen if any clubs have been alerted by the possibility of signing the defender.

Danny Hylton

Danny Hylton has been excellent for Luton over the years, playing a major role in Luton’s success in League Two, whilst also being a real nuisance in League One.

The former Oxford United forward has struggled to adapt to the rigours of the Championship, and whilst he has shown glimpses of promise in the second-tier, it was not frequent enough.

Hylton needs to be playing regular football once again, something Luton are unable to offer the 32-year-old.

Elliot Thorpe

Elliot Thorpe has progressed well within Luton’s development squad and is certainly an exciting prospect at the cHampionship club.

He finds himself at a similar stage of development as Dion Pereira, who has recently embarked on a temporary spell with Bradford City.

A League Two loan for Thorpe could be on the cards too, should sufficient interest be made for the 21-year-old.

Thorpe rejected a contract at Tottenham Hotspur to sign with the Hatters in search of more first-team opportunities in late September.
