Tottenham will be really pleased with what they are seeing so far from their youngster Dane Scarlett on loan at Portsmouth, with him quickly setting in at Fratton Park.

Spurs have a number of top young players on their books at the moment but few are showing as much promise as Scarlett is right now.

A teenager in years but certainly not in performances, he has got up to speed with the cut and thrust of senior football in League One quickly and is helping Pompey look like promotion contenders at this stage of the season.

Indeed, his numbers, as per Whoscored, are impressive with three goals in the league so far, with two of those coming in an early important win over recently relegated Peterborough United, showing he can be the man for the big occasion. This also makes him the club’s joint-second top scorer so far in the league, with him alongside Connor Ogilvie and behind Colby Bishop.

He also has one assist from his opening 10 league appearances for Pompey, whilst his pass success rate is just over 56% and he is averaging 1.6 shots per game in the league – this is a joint highest at the club alongside Michael Jacobs.

He’s being fouled over once a game on average as well, showing he is a handful for defenders with only four players at the club higher than him in that regard.

One area he might want to improve in, meanwhile, is key passes – which are passes that lead to a chance on goal for the team.

He averages 0.2 a game here and is only 15th highest at the club, so that might be something he and Danny Cowley work on.

It’s easy to forget that he is only 18, underlining his real potential but does he have a Spurs future? That might still be too early to call given how much more development Scarlett may have to go through but he is clearly a very good player that could make it in the Premier League if all goes to plan.

For now, though, he’ll be aiming to just keep building on what has been a solid start for Portsmouth this season.
