After Juventus pulled off a big win at home in the Champions League in midweek, thoughts will now turn to a huge clash against Antonio Conte’s Napoli in Serie A.

Here’s a look at the three biggest questions ahead of that fascinating encounter.

Conte’s hotly anticipated return

Antonio Conte will be forever linked to the history of Juventus, having won the Champions League with the club as a player back in 1996 and as a coach took them to three consecutive Serie A titles between 2011 and 2014.

He won the Scudetto in his first season in charge of the club, which was Juve’s first since their infamous relegation to Serie B in 2006.

That would ordinarily have given him hero status among the supporters, yet his acrimonious departure and later choice to join bitter rivals Inter have made that relationship more complex.

The ex-boss did return to Turin during his tenure with the Nerazzurri, but all of those matches were behind closed doors due to Covid.

Conte famously declared “You can’t eat for 10 euros in a €100 restaurant” when at loggerheads with the board over transfer policy.

Fall-outs with senior players and leaving the club in the lurch by quitting on the first day of pre-season has left his glorious tenure with a bit of a sour taste.

The fact that Conte is now in charge of Napoli – another rival – will only serve to fire up any underlying animosity once again.

Can Juventus overtake their rivals?

Napoli currently sit second in Serie A, with nine points taken from their first four matches and only Udinese (10) have registered more points in the opening rounds of the campaign.

Juve sit just behind on eight points, and would go above Napoli with a win on home soil.

So who will come out on top?

This looks to be an evenly matched affair. Since 2019/20, Napoli are the side that have beaten Juventus the most, with six wins for the Partenopei during this period. That said, Juve have won 10 of their last 13 home games against Napoli.

Under Thiago Motta, Juventus are yet to concede a single goal but have faced the fewest shots in Serie A (25), while Napoli are the team that have attempted the league’s most shots (72), which will be a real test for the Bianconeri defence.

With all this in mind, this game is too close to call, and is certainly one to look out for this weekend.

Can Lukaku break his Juve jinx?

While Romelu Lukaku has scored a total of 72 goals in his Serie A career, his record against Juventus is much less impressive.

In 12 games against the Bianconeri, the Belgian striker has only managed to score a total of three goals, and has lost more against Juventus (five) than any other Serie A side he has faced.

What’s more, Lukaku failed to score when he played 63 minutes against Thiago Motta’s Bologna in 2023, and while he has scored in his first two games for Napoli this season, he has never before managed to score in his first three games of a campaign.
