Caitlin Foord (Australia)

Named Best Young Player at the 2011 tournament while just 16, Foord is still just 28 but this will be her fourth World Cup. The forward is perfectly placed to have a stormer on home soil.

Comfortable on both feet and both flanks, as well as up front, she arrives back Down Under off the back of an excellent season with Arsenal. Foord’s movement in behind is a superb option for team-mates and she’s calm when chances present themselves. More than that, though, she is capable of offering just as much threat as a creator.

Selfless, intelligent, hard-working and supremely talented, Foord could become one of the stars of the summer, especially if the co-hosts go far.

Frida Maanum (Norway)

With Beth Mead and then Vivianne Miedema out injured, Arsenal needed players to step up this season. Maanum did exactly that.

The midfielder struggled for starts at last summer’s Euros but Norway will not make the same mistake again after she became undroppable in north London over the course of 2022/23.

A spectacular strike against Bayern Munich was her personal goal of the season but it is Maanum’s movement and hard work off the ball that makes her a consistent goal threat, it is her technical class that helps her deliver when the ball arrives in dangerous positions, and it is her energy combined with all of the above that helps her bound between the boxes with and without possession.

Katie McCabe (Ireland)

The face of Ireland’s first ever World Cup finals, McCabe will captain her country and carry the hopes of a nation Down Under.

It’s hard to say whether she is better known for her fiery attitude or possessing what is undoubtedly one of the best left feet at the entire tournament.

On the first point, McCabe will not shirk away from any challenge, she will be the first player on hand to support a team-mate and she will look to intimidate opponents. On the second, McCabe has the ability to consistently deliver spectacular moments from dead ball situations and from open play with a left foot that provides potential Goal of the Season contenders on what feels like a weekly basis.
