FC Barcelona have been dealing with the vulnerable state of their financial reality since quite a few seasons. It has even forced the club to reconsider their transfer targets and be as careful as possible. However, Barcelona is now fortunately improving in that regard.
To do that and accomplish a more sustainable financial reality for themselves, the Catalan giants have been working on various operations. Beyond just signing free agents and prioritizing player renewals as much as possible, the club is also working towards letting go of certain players.
The most recent update in this regard comes in relation to French defender Clement Lenglet. With reports suggesting that the club was working on his departure, it comes as no surprise to see FC Barcelona officially confirm the termination of his contract and he now joins Atletico Madrid permanently.
Having been on loan with the Madrid-based side previously, he impressed them enough for them to sign the player. As for Barcelona, the Catalan giants have managed to save nearly €32 million as per the information provided by Mundo Deportivo.

The reason behind this is the termination of his contract with Barcelona itself, as it essentially meant that he waived off the pending salary that was still promised to him, as shared by Barca Times. While his intentions behind this decision could very well be something else entirely, the reality is that it helps Barcelona a lot.
His contract was one of the few that the club has been looking to readjust somehow, but fortunately that will not be necessary now. Instead, the 29-year-old defender will now be on his way to Atletico Madrid and Barcelona have managed to lift a significant burden from their salary-based expenses.
Still, with the arrival of Joan Garcia expected to happen soon, another player’s departure might be on the table as well. The future of German goalkeeper Marc-Andre Ter Stegen may need to be addressed now, and it will likely be a complicated issue for Barcelona.
