FC Barcelona have long planned to strengthen their forward line in this summer transfer window, and initially, their favorite target for this purpose was the Colombian winger Luis Diaz.

After an interlude during which Nico Williams emerged as the favorite to reinforce the right wing for the Blaugrana team, the Liverpool star is now once again being seen as the preferred candidate for the Catalans.

A few days ago, it was confirmed that Nico would not be joining Barcelona as he renewed his contract with Athletic Club till 2035. He was linked very closely with the Blaugrana club, but the move fell through as he wanted some very specific guarantees regarding his registration, something the club was not willing to give.

Luis Diaz willing to sign without any conditions

However, even during the time when the Spaniard was looking to be very close to signing for Barcelona, the club’s links with Luis Diaz were not entirely dead, and the player’s entourage once again started sending signals to the Blaugranes once doubts started emerging about Nico’s signing.

In this regard, Mundo Deportivo reports that the Colombian was willing to sign for Barcelona unconditionally, unlike the Basque forward, who wanted registration guarantees.

Diaz is following the examples of Joan Garcia and Dani Olmo in not asking for any mandatory registration clause or a release clause in case of non-registration. Talks between the Catalan side and the winger’s agent have intensified in recent days, and significant progress has been made.

The winger will ask Liverpool to leave, after a while

Barcelona understand that the Colombian himself will ask Liverpool to be sold. However, this would take some time as the Merseyside club and its fans are still in mourning for the death of their player Diogo Jota. This death can also impact Liverpool’s willingness to part with Diaz as the team has already lost a top forward.

However, Luis Diaz is still clear that he wants to leave for Barcelona to fulfill his childhood dream. His agent believes the Premier League side can agree to his sale as they have already made a significant investment in players like Wirtz, Kerkez, and Frimpong, and need more income to offset the impact of fees paid for these players.
