Transfer News: Tottenham Hotspur make contact with Atletico Madrid star Yannick Carrasco

According to Spanish journalist Juanfe Sanz of El Chiringuito TV on Twitter (h/t Football.London), Tottenham Hotspur have made contact with Atletico Madrid star Yannick Carrasco for a potential transfer in the summer transfer window. He has enjoyed a solid spell at Wanda Metropolitano following his return to Europe after a spell in China.

Tottenham are planning to raid Atletico and prise away Carrasco as they look to bolster their squad ahead of the next season. They have now proposed an offer to the attacker to facilitate a move in the summer transfer window. It remains to be seen if he would entertain the prospect of moving to N17 or not in the coming weeks.

The Belgian international is currently contracted with Atleti until 2024, which does make things difficult for us if Diego Simeone’s side is not willing to part ways with the player. Then again, no concrete information has been made available just yet, so the fans are forced to wait and see how this situation develops this summer.

Spurs need Carrasco?

The 28-year-old has six goals and seven assists to his name this campaign from 43 appearances across all competitions. That is a solid return after taking into account how the La Liga club have failed to maintain their title-winning form from the last term.

What makes Carrasco an exciting addition for the North London side is his versatility to play anywhere in the attack and in both wing-back positions as well. That means Antonio Conte could be afforded the option to replicate what he did with Victor Moses and Ivan Perisic at Chelsea and Inter Milan respectively.

Conte successfully converted Moses and Perisic as wing-backs, and one could argue he could do the same with Carrasco. The latter would also be suited to the demanding style of play as Simeone is quite famed for employing such methods with his players.

We are heavy favourites to finish top four in the Premier League table, which means that there is a heightened need to strengthen the squad with quality signings. Carrasco is one such option, and perhaps the prospect of Champions League football could help the club make a stronger proposition to the player.

We have to wait and see whether the Belgian forward would accept any potential proposal from our side or not this summer. The supporters would be hopeful to see that happen, especially when there is also uncertainty surrounding Steven Bergwijn’s future which could open up a spot for Carrasco down the flanks.
