It's been a season of defensive lapses for James Bree, who isn't available against Liverpool next. Though an injury setback, maybe the defender's absence will see Southampton improved.

Accepted, Southampton has been worse lately, but a part of it credits to their unending injury issues.

Tell me, do you even remember the last time the club had all its starters available? Chances are probably not.

Now, it's not like these issues didn't change, but sadly they just transitioned for the worse. Initially originated in their attack force, recently they linger in their backline.

And it's result? Successive humiliating scorelines of 0-4, in a forgettable losing streak.

But, thankfully, there's some recovery on injuries as the Saints gear up for the Anfield trip. Luckily, the club's defensive leaders, Harwood-Bellis and Jan Bednarek would mark a return against Liverpool.

Still, there's a regular lineup name that will miss the contest. It's center-back, James Bree.

As quoted by the Daily Echo, boss Juric confirmed this, saying: "We are all good, only James Bree is out."

Now, naturally, being a lineup regular, James Bree's absence feels like a setback. But, what if I tell you, this could prove to be a silver lining for Southampton?

Southampton may improve after James Bree rule out

It's easy to admit that Bree has been quite erroneous recently. Still, that's not the only reason why his absence might help.

Southampton's goal-conceding issues have been alarming to say the least. But how can this be tackled? Possibly switching to a 4-manned backline than their current defense formation.

Now, in Bree's absence, injury returnees, Harwood-Bellis and Bednarek are sure to start. And that's where the difference arises.

Being physically superior and tactically aligned, the duo can challenge Liverpool's counters and their set-piece abilities. Further, a balanced 4 man system, having an additional man in the back helps the Saints cut down the Reds' wide attacks.

I know you are impressed by this strategy, but it will be a huge task for Southampton to actually implement this. Particularly, in front of 60000 fans, who would root for a Saints' humiliation.
