27-year-old Barcelona midfield star now set to stay at the club beyond this season – Report | OneFootball

Prior to the start of this season, FC Barcelona had a lot of complicated situations to address. For La Blaugrana, it was imperative that they made sure to address these issues as the season went on. Fortunately, it seems that Barcelona is doing well to make sure of that.

The player’s exceptional displays this season have reportedly been key in making this game, as per the same report. However, it does state that the arrival of an extraordinary offer could be the only scenario in which this is reconsidered.

With his contract set to expire in 2026, there was initial concern that he could leave for free at the end of his stay at the club. However, there has been much more positive progress in terms of negotiations as of late and there looks to be a much better possibility of extending the player’s contract now.

Moreover, if both the club and the player are onboard with him continuing beyond this season, there must be some kind of an understanding about his contract renewal. This is because Barcelona would simply not let him continue beyond this season with the possibility of losing him for free in the very next summer window.

Fortunately, it seems that all the involved parties are currently feeling good. The player is happy with the project, and Hansi Flick is certainly impressed by De Jong’s performances so far. Keeping that in mind, securing the player’s future could now be a real possibility for Barcelona.
