However, it seems there is some desire to bring him to the Football League this month, with recent reports claiming that second-tier quartet Millwall, Stoke, Cardiff and Swansea are all keen to sign him.

It is thought that any move would be an initial loan, with the potential to make that permanent in the future, but would van Hooijdonk be a good signing for one of those Championship teams?

Here, we’ve put the spotlight on the stats behind his performances for Heerenveen so far this season, according to SofaScore, in order to find out.

The main number that anyone is going to look for with regards to the addition of a striker, is their impact in front of goal.

In that respect, van Hooijdonk has shown this season that he is still capable of making an impact in the final third, having scored six goals in 18 appearances in the Dutch top-flight this season.

Indeed, the 22-year-old is a striker who looks to have a fair amount of confidence in his ability, averaging 2.7 shots per game, with one on target on average.

As a result, the striker is someone who can give opposition goalkeepers plenty to think about and deal with in matches.

Meanwhile, van Hooijdonk has also provided one assist this season, and with a pass success rate of 69%, he looks to be a reasonably reliable figure in possession, with regards to linking up with his teammates.

Elsewhere, with an average of 3.4 total duels won per game, the striker is someone who is ready and willing to take on oppositions defence one on one.

That too should help his side as he looks to take the game to rival clubs, which ought to put them under pressure when van Hooijdonk is going forward.

However, the 22-year-old does not produce the most significant defensive contributions, managing only 0.1 interceptions, 0.2 tackles and 0.6 clearances per game.

Even so, that is not the job that van Hooijdonk would be primarily being brough in to do by any club that signs him.

With that in mind, the fact he has shown promise at European top-flight level with his numbers going forward, it does seem as though van Hooijdonk is a player who could be worth pursuing for these Championship clubs.
