Manchester United coaches raise concerns over Eric Bailly

According to a report from the Evening Standard (h/t Express), Manchester United coaches have voiced their concerns over the long-term prospects of defender Eric Bailly. As a result, the club could look to sell him this summer.

Bailly joined Manchester United from Spanish outfit Villarreal in the summer of 2016 in a deal worth £30m. While he has impressed in spurts, the Ivory Coast international has been blighted by one injury after another throughout his spell at Old Trafford.

Till date, he has made only 54 appearances in the Premier League, averaging just around 13 games per season. He has spent 313 days out on the sidelines due to injury, missing 62 games as a result. (h/t Transfermarkt.com)

Bailly missed the entire first half of the 2019/20 season due to injury and has made just 10 appearances this term. As a result, the club’s coaches aren’t completely convinced that he can be the ideal long-term partner for captain Harry Maguire at the heart of the United defence.

With Victor Lindelof being the current first-choice alongside Maguire and the club looking at adding another centre-back this summer, Bailly will be pushed further down the pecking order. And thus, United are looking at the prospect of letting him go in the current transfer window. (h/t Express)

In fact, it has been claimed that Bailly has already been offered to AC Milan, who have turned down the opportunity to sign him. (h/t The Sun)

Bailly still has two years left on his contract at Manchester United. He signed a new deal in January earlier this year.

However, he hasn’t always been convincing when on the pitch. And given his injury history, we could very well see the club deciding to move him on. But that should be done only if we are able to sign someone to bolster our defence first.
