The top brass at FC Barcelona have seriously mishandled the registration of Dani Olmo and Pau Victor for the second half of the season. Despite Joan Laporta’s knack for finding solutions throughout his tenure, he was unable to finalize the registration by midnight on December 31, 2024.
This oversight will undoubtedly raise questions about why the club pursued a player in the summer without certainty regarding his registration for La Liga. It also prompts the question of what Barcelona’s plan would have been had Andreas Christensen not suffered an injury.
It is still not clear what the future holds for Dani Olmo. It is a very uncomfortable situation to be in as a club and a bitter reminder that as much as fans would want to think otherwise, Barcelona are not at all out of the woods from a financial sense.
The only positive to take from all this unwanted saga is that Dani Olmo seems relaxed and confident of continuing his career at Barcelona. Despite several European clubs being attentive to his situation, his focus seems to be the Catalan club.
The biggest indicator of all this was Olmo’s first tweet of 2025, where he seemed to clearly indicate his future with Barcelona by mentioning the red and blue hearts along with his message that read “It’s 2025 time”.
It is almost always difficult to read too much into tweets but this coupled with his agent’s clear indication that the player’s focus is on continuing at Barcelona gives the club some leeway in trying to get his registration sorted as soon as possible.
The 26-year-old has had an interesting first few months at Barcelona. He started off his return to his boyhood club in fine fashion but in recent months, much like the entire team, his performances have dropped with the exception of the Borussia Dortmund game.
It remains to be seen what the future holds for Dani Olmo and Barcelona. These are nervous times for the fanbase and it would help if Laporta would come out with a statement. Let’s wait and see how it plays out going forward.
