The 25-year-old is expected to feature for the Blues during pre-season as his new side prepare for another year in the sixth-tier of English football.

Edwards was one of a number of players who Bolton opted to release following the conclusion of the 2021/22 campaign.

Wanderers also opted to part ways with the likes of Alex Baptiste, Andrew Tutte, Liam Gordon and Nathan Delfouneso last month.

After recovering from a long-term knee injury, Edwards was loaned out to Southport in November.

The defender went on to feature on nine occasions for the Sandgrounders as they finished 12th in the National League North standings.

Set to play in this division again next season for Chester, Edwards will be determined to become a key player for the club later this year.

As for Edwards’ former side, the Trotters will be keen to build upon a promising end to the previous campaign when the new season starts in July.

Bolton won their last four league games to secure a ninth-place finish in the third-tier.

The Verdict

Having missed a considerable chunk of action due to issues with his fitness, Edwards will be hoping that his move to Chester will allow him to kick-start his career.

The defender could potentially hit the ground running at this level having featured for Southport during the previous term.

Bolton may not necessarily miss Edwards next season as they will unquestionably be looking to draft in some fresh faces in the coming months.

Ian Evatt has already bolstered his defensive options by signing Jack Iredale on a free transfer and could opt to strengthen at centre-back following the departure of Edwards and Baptiste.
