According to journalist Laurie Whitehall (h/t Express), Manchester United ace Marcus Rashford produced an incredible performance in the club’s 3-0 victory against Blackburn Rovers in a closed-doors friendly.
The Englishman played his first game in the famous red jersey since featuring in the awful defeat to Villarreal in the UEFA Europa League final in May. Rashford had returned to full training recently, and it definitely showed on the day.
Blackburn made the trip from Lancashire but were caught off-guard by a completely fit Rashford. The 23-year-old scored two out of United’s three goals on the day and made a telling return to match-action.
This performance would have been a huge relief for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and co., especially after the attacker was playing through the pain last season. The Englishman also did not treat himself immediately as he featured for his nation at the Euros.
Although the competition ended in bitter disappointment for him as he missed one of the decisive kicks in the penalty shoot-out against Italy, he returned to Carrington for pre-season training. It was confirmed there that he would have to undergo surgery and it was ‘estimated’ that it would take 12 weeks for Rashford to get back to full fitness.
He has been put through the paces in recent weeks, and he would now be gearing for a competitive return, especially after his incredible performance behind closed doors.
While there is no saying whether Solskjaer will straightaway use him in the starting line-up against Leicester on the 16th of October, he could earn a place in the squad.
With Liverpool, Tottenham, and Manchester City also on the horizon before the next international break, the 23-year-old has returned to fitness at just the right time for his boyhood club.
