Transfer News: Sven Botman addresses links with ‘big clubs’ after Tottenham Hotspur interest

Speaking in an interview with The Athletic (Subscription Required) [h/t ESPN], Lille centre-back Sven Botman revealed his admiration for the Premier League amid transfer links with Tottenham Hotspur.

The Dutch defender has attracted the interest of both Spurs and Liverpool recently. His contribution in Lille’s potential Ligue 1-winning season has not gone unnoticed.

And addressing transfer links to the Premier League, Botman revealed how he was excited to see big teams show interest in him.

“It is a good compliment when you hear these clubs are interested. I’m lying if I say it’s not interesting me — it’s the first time such big clubs are linked to me.”

Botman has Premier League dreams

Botman further says that he will think about his future at Lille after a vacation in the summer. From his comments, his admiration for the Premier League seems to be greater than any other top European league.

“If I’m honest, the Premier League is one of the leagues I dreamed about… but also Serie A, La Liga, the Bundesliga. The Premier League is something special. It’s the football I really like and that fits me. The style of play, the emotion; I really like to see the fans with such big emotions in the stands.”

From what Botman has said, it seems like he is gearing up for a future move to England. The 21-year-old has seen his stocks soar in the past few months.

He came through Ajax’s academy but failing to cement his place in the senior team, joined Heerenveen on loan. A move to Ligue 1 followed last summer, where he has spearheaded a defence that has conceded just 22 goals in their 36 league games.

There is no doubt that he would instantly strengthen Spurs’ defence which currently lacks depth. And at just 21, the best of Botman is yet to come.
