FC Seoul's frustrating season continued as they were held to a goalless draw by league leaders Daejeon Citizen despite completely dominating the match at the Daejeon World Cup Stadium.
The visitors bombarded Daejeon's goal with 21 shots but couldn't find a way past an inspired Lee Chang-geun in the home side's goal. In stark contrast, Daejeon managed just a single attempt throughout the entire 90 minutes.
Seoul's attacking trio of Jesse Lingard, Moon Seon-min, and Jung Han-min created numerous opportunities but lacked the clinical edge to convert their overwhelming possession into goals. The result extends Seoul's winless run to seven matches, with Kim Gi-dong's men now sitting ninth in the K League 1 with just 14 points from 12 games.
League leaders Daejeon showed why they've been the surprise package this season, displaying remarkable defensive resilience to secure a point that maintains their position at the summit. Goalkeeper Lee Chang-geun was the undisputed hero, producing several crucial saves to frustrate Seoul's forwards.
The clean sheet extends Daejeon's unbeaten run to six matches, with Hwang Sun-hong's side now on 27 points from 13 games. Their transformation from relegation candidates last season to title contenders has been remarkable.
Seoul's struggles in front of goal have been exacerbated by injuries to key midfielders Ki Sung-yueng (hamstring) and Jeong Seung-won (clavicle), who could potentially require surgery. Their absence has disrupted the team's creativity and control in midfield.
These injuries have forced manager Kim Gi-dong into tactical reshuffles, but the team continues to create chances without converting them. Seoul now hold the unwanted record of having the league's lowest goal tally despite consistently generating high shot volumes.
The match was not without tension, with five yellow cards issued throughout. Seoul's Ryu Jae-moon and Kim Jin-su were cautioned, while Daejeon's Kim Moon-hwan, Kim In-gyun, and Choi Geon-joo also entered the referee's book in what was a physical encounter.
