The Cameroonian Football Federation has announced that 21 out of the 30 players selected to represent the nation at the Africa Cup of Nations U17 qualification campaign have ultimately been left out of the squad after failing an age test.
In a press release, the Federation announced that 21 of their players had failed the test. An MRI scan of the wrist is taken in order to analyse the maturity of the bones and therefore ascertain the player’s age. This is done in order to prevent fraud. 21 players have failed this test (70% of the whole squad). Only nine passed. The Cameroonian Federation has announced that they are now working on replacing the ineligible players, who have been removed from the group.
The press release concluded by urging all actors, in particular educators, to ensure that the age categories are respected. The qualification tournament is set to take place in Limbe, Cameroon.
