The Azzurri will go in Group A if they beat Germany in the Nations League quarter-finals next year or in Group I if they are defeated and eliminated.

The opponents in Group A are Slovakia, Northern Ireland and Luxembourg, while those in Group I are Norway, Israel, Estonia and Moldova.

Italy have missed out on the latest two editions of the World Cup and have not played a knock-out game in the competitions since 2006 when they won the trophy for the fourth time.
