MIAMI, Florida – The 2023 Clausura in Liga MX saw matchday 4 enter the books with all four 2023 Scotiabank Concacaf Champions League participants from Mexico in action over the weekend.

Pachuca emerged as the lone winners of the four clubs thanks to a 2-1 home victory versus Necaxa on Sunday to stay atop the table in Liga MX.

The Tuzos started off strong with a bevy of chances but it took until the 42’ for the deadlock to be broken, as Javier Lopez guided in a header to hand his side a 1-0 lead.

Pachuca looked to add to their advantage and were able to do so in the 79’ when Gustavo Cabral converted a penalty after Erick Sanchez had been fouled two minutes earlier in the Necaxa area.

A last-minute Necaxa goal through Facundo Batista prevented the clean sheet, but it was still another three points for Pachuca.

Atlas twice had to rally from a goal deficit to earn a 2-2 draw with Santos Laguna in a home contest on Thursday, keeping the Guadalajara club unbeaten on the young season with a win and two draws.

Javier Correa gave the visitors from Torreon a 1-0 lead in the 27’, but there was an answer from the hosts in the 68’ through Ozziel Herrera’s right-footed rocket to make it 1-1.

Yet Santos would have a response themselves and pull ahead again, 2-1, in the 71’ when Juan Brunetta found the back of the net.

Atlas refused to throw in the towel and earned themselves a precious point courtesy of a well-timed header from Julian Quinones in the 78’ to complete the 2-2 scoreline.

Tigres also stayed unbeaten through four games (2W-2D-0L) and are third in the table after a 0-0 home draw against San Luis on Saturday.

It was a frustrating night for the Tigres attack, which had the San Luis defense on their heels but were never able to find a way past San Luis GK Marcelo Barovero.

Tigres will hope that the arrival of new winger and Mexico National Team player Diego Lainez will help rekindle the team’s attack.

Club Leon sit in 11th place after the weekend following a 0-0 draw at Toluca on Sunday. A red card to Lucas Di Yorio in the 37’ complicated matters for Club Leon, and then things got even more difficult in the 63’ when Paul Bellon was sent off, leaving La Fiera with just nine men.

The visitors dug in, though, and thanks to some solid defending and heads up goalkeeping from Rodolfo Cota, Club Leon managed to walk away with a point.
