Although they were still able to win all the big domestic titles, FC Barcelona did not have a very easy start to the 2024-25 season. In addition to minimal reinforcements from the market, Hansi Flick also had to face the absence of some important players due to injury.

One such player who started this 2024-25 season significantly late was Gavi, as he was still injured when the season started, and played his first game under Flick only in late October, in the league match against Sevilla.

He had suffered this injury while on international duty on November 19th, 2023, as he ruptured the ACL of his right knee and had to undergo surgery.

As he returned to fitness, there had already been a management change from Xavi to Flick. However, fortunately for the young midfielder, the new Blaugrana coach was very considerate of his recovery process, and the two individuals seem to enjoy a close bond in general.

In fact, since his return from injury, he has played a total of 1688 minutes spread over 42 games, in which he scored three goals and provided three assists.

He started 20 of these 42 games, which is a good number considering he returned from a serious injury and there was a lot of competition in the Barcelona midfield. He also stated that he is satisfied with his performances since making his comeback from such a severe injury.

Gavi will fight for more prominence

The 20-year-old midfield star is currently enjoying vacation after having played a minimal role in Spain’s UEFA Nations League semi-final tie against France. But in the mean time, SPORT reports that he wants even more prominence in Flick’s team next season, and thus would return to training on 13th July with full strength.

The German tactician himself believes a lot in Gavi and sees him as an important player in his squad. The midfielder understands that there is a lot of competition in both the central midfield and attacking midfield positions, but in his characteristic fashion, he will continue fighting for minutes as he continues to leave behind the impacts of his serious injury.
