The Red Dragons are expected to enjoy a busy summer transfer window ahead of their return to second tier football next season for the first time since the early 1980s.

Phil Parkinson's side won't be looking to simply survive in the Championship next term either, as armed with a reported £25m transfer budget, the Welsh side will harbour ambitions of winning their fourth consecutive promotion in as many years.

As such, they are sure to be ruthless and ambitious when it comes to incomings and outgoings over the coming weeks and months, as they look to continue their Hollywood rise through the ranks of English football.

According to a report from The Athletic on 3 June, defenders Luke Bolton and Will Boyle are 'likely' to see their time with Wrexham brought to a close this summer.

Neither of the defensive duo played a single minute of League One football for the Red Dragons this past season, with both of them making two EFL Trophy appearances and one Carabao Cup outing respectively.

The report goes on to claim that there doesn't appear to be a significant role for Ollie Palmer to play in the Championship next season, and with the 33-year-old centre-forward heading into the final year of his contract, he could well be on the chopping block too.

The Athletic also suggests that this summer could also be the end of the road for Paul Mullin's fabled spell at the Racecourse Ground, with the 30-year-old having made just 26 appearances and nine league starts in 2024/25.

Wrexham need to create room in Phil Parkinson's squad if £25m war chest is to be spent

It's no secret that Wrexham AFC and their Hollywood owners are shooting for the biggest heights in English football.

However, in order to accomplish that, there will come a time when some excellent servants of the football club can't be taken any further, and that may well be the case for a few this summer.

Starting with Boyle, the 29-year-old central defender has spent the vast majority of his career in English football playing at League Two level, with just a handful of Championship appearances to his name from his time with Huddersfield Town.

It's a similar story for Bolton too, as he's largely spent his time in the EFL at fourth tier level as well. He did make 24 Championship appearances for Luton Town in the 2019/20 season, but the former Manchester City academy talent and England youth international now looks to be surplus to requirements for the second tier side.

As for Mullin and Palmer, both forwards have played essential roles in helping the Red Dragons secure promotions from both the National League and League Two, but both veteran strikers were reduced to squad roles in League One last term.

Therefore, with a potential £25m war chest ready to be splashed out on improving the playing squad this summer, there will need to be exits in order to make way for those new arrivals.

As such, it does feel as though some tough decisions will need to be made in the coming weeks, but it may well be a case of ruling with their heads over their hearts for Wrexham's decision-makers.
