Swindon Town will have eyes on automatic promotion from League Two in the New Year.
They’re fourth ahead of Boxing Day’s game against Walsall at the County Ground and will be hoping to close the gap on the top three, which currently stands at seven points.
Swindon will plan to use the January window to aid their hopes of breaking into the automatic places in 2023.
With that in mind, here are two Swindon transfers we could realistically see next month…
In: Sam Bell
Bristol City technical director Brian Tinnion has confirmed that at least four EFL clubs have shown an interest in forward Sam Bell ahead of the January window.
It remains to be whether the Championship club will sanction his departure from Ashton Gate but it would not be a huge surprise if Swindon were one of the teams to show an interest.
Adding more competition and cover for the likes of Luke Jephcott and Jacob Wakeling could be smart as Scott Lindsey’s side are the lowest scorers in the top seven.
The close distance between Swindon and Bristol makes it an obvious destination for Bell, as it would likely mean it’s easier for him to settle and that City can watch him closely, while League Two feels like the right level for him.
Cheltenham Town have been named as an interested party but Swindon may well be pushing to land the young striker.

Out: Luke Jephcott
Plymouth Arglye loanee Luke Jephcott has proven a fantastic signing for the Robins – having bagged five goals in 14 appearances since making the move to Wiltshire.
But the Pilgrims do have the option to recall him next month and that may be something they consider as Steven Schumacher looks to tool up for the promotion push.
Argyle do not have the spending power of Ipswich Town or Sheffield Wednesday, who will undoubtedly splash the cash in January, and it may be that bringing back Jephcott is their best option to add more depth up top.
Their hand may be forced if Swansea City Morgan Whittaker is recalled and there have been murmurs of interest in the forward in January.
Losing Jephcott would be far from ideal for Swindon, who are not blessed with a huge amount of forward firepower as it is, but the decision is out of their hands.
It simply has to be something that they’re planning for ahead of the winter window.
