Arsenal provided updates on Dani Ceballos and Pablo Mari ahead of their weekend clash with Southampton, and it looks like good news.

Dani Ceballos and Pablo Mari are both struggling with calf problems at the moment, but it doesn’t look like either of them will be out for long.

Arsenal report that Ceballos only missed Monday’s match against Newcastle United as a ‘precaution’. They’ll continue to assess and test him ahead of Saturday’s match against Southampton, but it sounds like there’s at least a possibility he might be back.

As for Mari, he’ll miss the weekend’s match, but Arsenal write that he’s aiming to be back in training next week. Again, that’s good news, because we had no indications over exactly how long he’d miss until now – just that it would be at least a few matches.

The only bad news is that Mikel Arteta hinted there might be a few other injury problems in the squad after Newcastle.

He told his press conference on Thursday: “We have a few issues after the (Newcastle) game as well, so in the next two days we will see the best possible lineup.”

Arsenal have taken to being a bit more secretive about any knocks in the squad before matchday, presumably to deny their opposition the chance to prepare for a certain player’s absence. Hopefully, the issues are nothing too serious this time around.
