Port Vale are loving life back in League One.

Darrell Clarke’s side won promotion to the third tier via the League Two play-off final last season and now sith 10th – just five points back from the top six.

The Valiants’ rise up the table will have some supporters dreaming of another play-off push and some smart moves in January would certainly help.

But the winter window is about who leaves the club as well as any new signings.

With that in mind, we’ve highlighted two players that could depart before the January 31st deadline…

Jack Stevens

Jack Stevens has been a regular fixture in Clarke’s side this term – with the goalkeeper playing 20 of Vale’s 24 League One games.

But the 25-year-old is only on loan from Oxford United and there is some uncertainty surrounding his future.

Karl Robinson told The Herald Series this week that a decision is yet to be made over whether to recall Stevens this month.

He explained: “We’re having consistent conversations with the goalkeeping department, it’s their decision.

“These are conversations and debates we have on a regular basis.”

Oxford shot-stopper Simon Eastwood looks to have recovered from his recent injury problems but it would not be a surprise to see him leave Vale this month.

Tommy McDermott

While Stevens leaving would be a blow for the League One club, Tommy McDermott’s potential loan departure would surely be viewed as a positive.

The young midfielder signed his first professional contract back in July but his opportunities have been limited in 2022/23.

McDermott is just 17 and is clearly someone that the club have high hopes for but he could surely do with a run of games at senior level.

He’s not likely to get those chances at Vale Park but a loan move, potentially to a non-league side, could offer him that.
